Prevent Workplace Violence with Office Security System

image

Workplace violence is a serious issue. In 2017, 458 individuals were killed, and more than 18,000 others were injured. Installing a quality office security system can help protect your workers from this violence.

Prevention is key if you want to create a safe and secure environment for your employees. Along with a few other steps, a business security system can help you prevent these crimes, keeping yourself and your workers safe.

Understanding Workplace Violence

Workplace violence is the threat of violence or actual violence against an employee. There are four main types of workplace violence:

· Personal relationship violence: Someone in your employee’s life threatens the employee while at work.

· Criminal intent: The perpetrator is not any way related to a business or person targeted.

· Worker-on-worker violence: Occurs when co-workers engage in threats or violence.

· Customer violence: A customer or client attacks an employee.

Each situation can cause emotional trauma, a serious injury, or a fatality. As the business owner or manager, it is your job to put the proper safeguards in place to protect them.

How Can a Security System Help with Workplace Violence?

A first step for preventing workplace violence is to create a workplace violence prevention program. Include your emergency plan along with educational materials regarding what workplace violence is. This plan should be combined with your office security system. Features like access control systems, alarms, and video surveillance can help deter potential violence in the workplace.

For example, an access control system can prevent any unauthorized entry of nefarious individuals. Also, your customers and workers will be much less likely to engage in workplace violence if they are aware there is a surveillance system in place.

Will Yard Signs Help Deter Burglars?

image

If you are like most people, you like being able to save money. While home security is important, it is still nice to have a bit of “wiggle” room in the budget each month. To save money, you may be tempted to post a sign in your yard that states your home is protected by a certain alarm system.

However, before doing this, you need to find out if this is enough to deter burglars.

Any Sign Is Better Than No Sign

The truth is, having a security sign in your yard can make a burglar think twice before targeting your home. Remember, a thief is an opportunist. They want to get away with what they can, as easily and quickly as possible. If you have a security system in place, or if you have a sign that makes a burglar think you do, they may skip your house and choose one without this same perceived protection.

While you may want the benefit of security without making an investment, just posting signs in your yard does have some potential pitfalls.

Risks Related to Only Relying on Security Signs

If you try to “fake out” the bad guys, you need to be careful. While the sign may be better than nothing at all, it isn’t better by that much. Using a fake sign is going to add new risks. For example:

· You develop a false sense of security.

· There’s no alert of a problem if someone does break in.

· No clues that will help you catch a thief.

· It indicates your home or property is worth protecting, which may make it a bigger target.

Better Security Strategies to Try

While any security step you take will make an impact, there are some that are more effective than others. If you have a limited budget, consider trying these methods of protection:

· Landscaping: Keep bushes and trees trimmed and be sure there is a clean line of sight to all doors and windows.

· Lights: Keep things well-lit, which will be an automatic turn-off to burglars.

· Install a security system: There are an array of affordable security systems available today and they are worth investing in.

As you can see, while a yard sign may be better than nothing, it does come with risks when it comes to the safety and security of your home. A better option is to invest in one of the affordable security systems that are available today.

Smart Lockers: Does Your Business Need One?

A smart locker system is a type of secure storage and distribution that has a computer and sensor built in. They can easily adjust what assets can be signed out, flag assets that need to be repaired, and alert you to any irregularities in the sign out patterns.

Traditional storage lockers can hold laptops, but they may only be secured using a PIN code. Anyone who has this code can take the laptop whenever they want. However, with a smart locker, you have a storage and charging port in one. Also, the authentication panel will record the person signing in or out the laptop. It is possible to restrict who has access to the laptop or to make it available at only specific times.

Benefits Offered by Smart Locker Systems

There are several benefits offered by smart locker systems. These include:

· Reduced labor: The smart locker will automate time consuming tasks that go with manual asset management.

· Reduced asset losses: No issue related to human error because the smart locker records everything.

· Automatic regulatory compliance: If you need to track certain assets or controlled substances, a smart locker will provide an efficient method for maintaining regulatory compliance.

· Improved insight for device usage: With these lockers you have a report of how, when, and where equipment is used.

· Always ready: Designed for busy workplaces and can be used in emergency situations, smart lockers can always provide access thanks to battery backup and smart features.

Is a smart locker right for your business? With the information here, you can see all the benefits this type of technology offers. Take advantage of them to see how they can benefit your business.
