November Newsletter

We hope that everyone enjoyed the extra hour of sleep they got on Sunday! The clocks changing is always a great reminder to check the batteries in both your smoke detectors and your carbon monoxide detectors. It’s also important to check their lifespan – on average, smoke detectors should be changed every ten years, and CO detectors every five to seven years – the devices should have a sticker on them that tell you when it was manufactured.

The Holidays are Coming: Is Your Business Ready?

The holidays are right around the corner. Now is the time to be gearing up for those huge holiday sales. However, if you don’t take steps to ensure your business is protected, you may be singing a different tune this year.

Protecting your business can be challenging. Not only do you have to take steps to safeguard the physical storefront you have, but also the sensitive information you collect from your customers. Don’t wait for disaster to strike to take action – use the tips and information here to ensure your business can get through the holidays unscathed this year.

Review Your Security Policies with all Your Workers

If you want to ensure your business remains secure through the holidays, you have to be able to rely on your employees. To make sure everyone is aware of the security policies in place, review them now. Be sure everyone is on the same page. Some of the things to cover include:

  • How to lock up valuable items
  • The cyber security policy you have in place
  • Rules about inviting people to the workplace for holiday events
  • Security action plan if an emergency occurs

Ensure all Security Equipment is Functioning Properly

After you have reviewed all your security policies and procedures, it’s time to test all of your security equipment. You need to ensure it is all functioning properly. The items to include in this test are:

  • Surveillance cameras (inside and outside)
  • Alarm systems
  • Panic buttons
  • Access control systems and smart locks
  • Cyber security software

Once you have tested all this equipment, be sure there’s nothing that may obstruct it, such as your holiday decorations.

Provide Updates about Special Holiday Hours to Your Security Company

Are you planning to use a new schedule during the holidays? If so, you need to let your security company or alarm monitoring service know about it. This will ensure they know when to watch for any unusual activity.

When it comes to the holiday season, there’s no question that it is a great time to make extra money; however, you also have to take steps to safeguard your business. The tips here will help you do just that.

Securing Your Home Over Thanksgiving: Tips to Be Thankful For

Thanksgiving is right around the corner. For many, this means traveling to visit family all over the world. However, if you aren’t confident that your home is secure, can you really enjoy this special time? Probably not. The good news is, there are some helpful tips that will ensure your home remains safe while you are enjoying your turkey and trimmings.

Put a Hold on Your Newspapers and Mail

If there are stacks of mail and a pile of newspapers near your front door or in your driveway, it’s a tell-tale sign that no one is there. This is a green light for burglars. Avoid this situation by putting a hold on your mail and papers. If you don’t want to do this, ask a neighbor to pick them up for you.

Install a High-Quality Home Security System

Thanks to innovative technology, today’s home security systems are able to provide you with 24-hour surveillance, and you can even check in via your smart device to see what is going on. If you don’t have a security system in place yet, now is the time to have one installed. In addition to being able to see what is going on at all times, you will also have a third-party monitoring the property for any unusual activity.

Use Timers for Your Lights

Another sign that your home is vacant is if it is always dark inside. It’s a good idea to use timers for your lights. This will allow you to have them come on or go off at different times. It will help to reduce the look that your house is empty.

Use Social Media Carefully

While it is fun to let everyone know where you are and what you are doing, this isn’t the best course of action. A better plan is to wait to post on social media until you get back home. That way, no one will know you are away and potentially target your house.

If you use the tips here, you will be able to safeguard your home during Thanksgiving. This will give you peace of mind and allow you to enjoy all the turkey and trimmings you can eat.
