May 2015 Newsletter

Thank you for reading this issue of our newsletter.

We wish all a safe and happy summer. Burglaries tend to spike in the warmer months so remember to be careful - lock windows and doors when you're not home and sleeping and don't leave valuable items unattended outdoors.

This month in The Local Business Spot Lite we feature the Jacob Holle Funeral Home of Maplewood and South Orange.  They have been customers of ours since 1995 but their history goes back much further, 162 years. We protect their two locations with burglar and fire alarm systems.

Don't forget to read our blog, the link is to your right.

Thank you again.

Commercial Security

Description: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-68279fb6-6432-4105-a099-57119377ba3c-v2Against Access Control? Consider the Following Information:

If you are on the fence regarding whether or not you should install an access control system for your business, there are a few things you may want to consider. Prior to deciding if access control installation is right for you, take some time to mull over the information below.

Access Control Can Boost Your Image

Issuing a credential for authorized users that requires them to swipe a card or badge at a door, or other entryway, is not showing “disrespect” for your other visitors or clients. In fact, it is actually showing them that you care a great deal about their safety, as well as the safety of your employees. This can help give a positive boost to your image that will impress important visitors.

Access Control Can Lead to an Increase in Productivity

Chances are you have found your employees gathered at Description: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-0eff2e15-ae65-427a-86e5-2e296b829466-v2the water cooler or in someone else’s workstation from time to time. You may have also discovered that a family member or friend stopped by to “chat.” What this means is that your employees work has completely stopped – costing you in productivity. However, when you install an access control system, it can help to ensure your staff remains productive while they are on the clock.

The installation of an access control system is an extremely important decision for modern business owners. These systems are not right for all business types; however, there are a number of business owners who are doing themselves a great disservice by not considering the benefits that access control systems offer.

Residential Security

Is Your Landscaping Hurting or Helping Your Home’s Security?

Description: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-0d72f989-05f4-4552-805e-2ccbadff920f-v2Virtually every homeowner in America makes, at least, a little bit of an effort to ensure that their home is safe from crime; however, there are some actions you can take that may not be as obvious as others. When you think of home security, chances are you think of a home security alarm system. While this is an essential element of your home security plan, there are still a number of things you can do to enhance the security around your property, starting with the landscaping.

Use Your Landscaping as a Tool

While your landscaping can add a great deal of curb appeal to your home, it can also be used as a tool. The way it is designed will help to determine if it is a tool to prevent a break-in or to help an intruder. There are few homeowners who view their landscaping as a security feature because it is mainly seen as a hazard used by criminals. However, if you take some time to view the landscaping of your home from the street and then consider how it can help or hurt your home’s security, you are on the right path.

Place All Shrubs, Bushes and Trees Strategically

The bushes and trees you place on your property can helpDescription: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-16395f60-89cf-4aa0-a066-d9e61337cc8e-v2 it look great, but the foliage may also provide an excellent hiding place for anyone who wants to commit a crime. Trees offer access to the second floor of your home, and trellises and bushes can provide an intruder complete cover, even in the middle of the day. You should minimize anything that you have located close to your home.  The rule of thumb is 3’ or lower for bushes and adding prickly shrubs can be a good deterrent.

Add Plenty of Light

Lighting is a great deterrent for criminals. In addition to the typical pathway lighting, you should also consider adding floodlights that are motion activated and that cover areas such as your windows and doors.

When you think about how you can make your home safer, you should not forget about the landscaping. Even a few small changes can make a world of difference.

Automation, Apps and Access: How Technology is Making You Safer

Description: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-8e8510a3-005c-4113-8d26-712033ac01c4-v2In this high-tech world, being able to keep your home completely protected is much easier than it has ever been in the past. Much more sophisticated than the overly-loud alarms that were used in the past, the home security gadgets today are discreet and offer tons of different features. They also require very little installation and many can be easily controlled with a Smartphone app. Some of the latest and greatest security apps you should check out are:

Ninja Blocks

This block would get the best of even the most skilled ninjas. This small device syncs up to various sensors installed on your windows, doors and other areas in your home. If motion is detected, the Ninja will send a text or make a phone call so that you can take the proper action.

Rovio – the Robot

If hiring a manned security officer is not in your budget, go for the next best thing – Rovio. Here you have a robot-on-wheels that will make the rounds in your home or business, detecting motion and recording any activity with a Wi-Fi enabled camera. You can access the video right through your Smartphone.

The Canary Security System

While this name is reminiscent of the days of early devicesDescription: https://d1yoaun8syyxxt.cloudfront.net/ed152-6281c9e9-f7be-4133-b687-0c298cfe2a48-v2 used for carbon monoxide detection, this sophisticated system can do much more than just monitor for intruders. The Canary Security System features air quality sensors, humidity, temperature, a microphone and an HD camera. You can place the device in a central location in your home and receive a call or text if there is any suspicious behavior.  Keeping your home and business safe just got easier and more efficient with these tech savvy gadgets.

The Local Business Spot Lite: Jacob Holle Funeral Home-Maplewood & South Orange, New Jersey

If you’ve ever had to arrange funeral services for a loved one you know how hard it can be, not only logistically but emotionally as well.  Having professional guidance and support throughout the process can help put your mind at ease and make for a less arduous journey.  The family run business at the Jacob Holle Funeral Home is a full service funeral home, meaning they organize everything from burials to cremations.  They have two locations, one in Maplewood and one in South Orange, New Jersey.

To help protect their family business and the integrity of their clientele, our team at Perfect Connections, Inc. installed fire and burglar alarm systems at both funeral home locations and alarm systems at Jacqueline and her mother’s personal residence.  When asked how the systems have been working for them, Jacqueline said, “They’ve been working great!”  She pointed out the fact that the systems are wireless due to the infrastructure of the funeral homes.

Often times in older or historical buildings hardwired systems are not a viable option due to structural obstacles or the risk of causing too much aesthetic damage.  In regards to service provided by Perfect Connections Jacqueline said, “Pat’s great, we call and he comes out the next day.”  Patrick (Pat), founder of Perfect Connections, and our team of integrators have been providing comprehensive security system solutions to businesses and homes throughout northern and central New Jersey for the past 23 years.  We understand each facility and home is unique and requires personal attention with a tailored solution.

Q & A with Jacqueline A. Holle, Executive Director-R. Faucett Construction Inc.

Speaking with Jacqueline I was able to learn more about Jacob Holle Funeral Home and the services they provide.  As previously mentioned it is a family run business, however I did not realize how far back the business goes.  Jacqueline and her brother Clark are the 5th generation to run the business.  The Jacob Holle funeral home is the 2nd oldest in all of New Jersey State.  It all started back in 1851 with their great great grandfather Albert J. Holle in Newark, NJ.  Jacob Holle, third generation owner, decided to move locations twice before settling in Maplewood, NJ in 1937.  Jacob’s son Richard, Jacqueline and Clark’s father, took over in 1963 and is currently “easing into retirement.”  Richard, Clark, and Jacqueline sought to expand the business and did just that in 2003 when they acquired Preston Funeral Home in South Orange.

No culture or religion is immune to the difficulties that accompany the death of a loved one.  As a full service funeral home the Holle’s provide services to anyone and everyone regardless of race or religion.  To help their patrons through the grieving process it is the Holle’s belief that everyone be treated as family.  At the Jacob Holle Funeral Home you won’t feel like just another number.  They also keep up with the changing times acknowledging traditional funeral services may not be what they used to.  Meaning clients’ needs and wants have transformed over the years and they pride themselves on being receptive to those changes as well as changes to the surrounding areas.

Planning a funeral or memorial service can seem like a daunting task, but with expertise and support from the Holle family you can be sure the grieving process will feel a little lighter.  Clark and Jacqueline carry on their family’s work by providing the utmost sensitivity and attention to detail for every family, friend, and loved one.  To learn more about their services visit their website at Jacob Holle Funeral Home .  You can contact them 24/7 with any inquiries at (973) 762-2200 (Maplewood location) or (973) 762-1133 (South Orange location).
