Thought You Couldn't Afford An Alarm System For Your Business? Well, Guess Again!

Every business, no matter how small, needs some type of security. Even on a tight budget, you as a business owner need to have a security system installed. Here are some systems that are affordable to most any small business owner.

An unmonitored system has an exceptionally loud horn or siren that goes off both inside and out when triggered. It can also be rigged to set off flood lights that burn steady or flash drawing more attention to your business. This type of alarm will generally scare off the burglar, but without being monitored, unless you are close by, you need to have someone who can notify you that it has been triggered.

A monitored alarm system- when the alarm is triggered, in addition to the siren making noise, the monitoring station contacts both you and the local police. The one drawback to this type of system is that if the outside phone line is cut, your business can be broken into and damage done, but a cellular communicator can be added to cover this threat. Many new systems have the cellular communicator as the primary communications device.

Exterior alarms- placed on the outside of your building, they usually include motion detection lights and a very loud alarm. They are triggered when motion in a certain direction is detected.

3 Commonly-Made Home Security Mistakes & How to Easily Fix Them

Most homeowners are aware that they need to keep their homes and families safe and take the appropriate action to do so. But still, there are some pretty common security mistakes that are made in the process. These mistakes are things we never really think about, but are so easy to fix. Take a look at this list and see if you don't recognize some things you might be doing at your home.

  1. Hidden Keys- we all have them. Under a flower pot, inside a fake rock or up over a door ledge somewhere. If you're going to have an extra key -leave it with a neighbor or store it someplace where no one passing by might see you using it. Of course the best thing to do is not lock yourself out.
  2. Not arming your alarm system- your state of the art security system does you no good if you don't turn it on. If you're not taking the time to activate it EVERY time you leave home, then you might as well advertise that your home is wide open to thieves.
  3. Visible Valuables-While we enjoy having our curtains and blinds open, remember anyone passing by can see in just as well as you can see out. This is especially true if your home is very close to the street or sidewalk. Keep your valuables such as purses, electronics and valuable items away from open windows

Headaches- We've All Had Them!

Most everybody has had a headache at one time or another. The question is, have you ever stopped to think about why there are different types of headaches?

Tension headaches- just like it sounds, this type is caused from pressure being exerted. The most common way a tension headache hurts is pain in your temples, forehead and a great deal of pressure all around your head, neck and shoulder. It feels as though you are wearing a hat or head band that is about three sizes too small.

Migraines- are the most debilitating types of headaches. Many migraine sufferers often are in bed for days. Migraines can cause sensitivity to light, sound and motion. Migraines can come on slowly causing nausea, and blurred vision.

Cluster headaches- are not that common. These headaches occur over the course of days or weeks and most of the times occur suddenly with no warning. The cluster headache is generally defined by sharp, short bursts of pain that can last minutes or hours.

Sinus headaches- occur from the result of built up pressure in one's sinus cavities. Their pain is generally centered between your eyes and around your nose. These headaches have the added side effect of your head being stopped up as well.

Inside Micheal Jordan's New $2.8 million mansion-six bedrooms & eight bathrooms!  But Guess what?  It doesn't have a basketball court!

Basketball great Michael Jordan has bought another sprawling multi-million dollar estate, this time in his home state of North Carolina. The NBA Hall of Famer is best known for his time with the Chicago Bulls, the basketball team he joined after dazzling with the University of North Carolina in the early Eighties.

He spent most of his childhood in North Carolina, played for the North Carolina Tar Heels and is now the majority owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats. So it makes sense that the Brooklyn-born star, who turned 50 earlier this month, should own a home there as well.

According to Fox Sports, Jordan recently paid $2.8 million for a home in Cornelius, North Carolina, just 22 miles from where the Bobcats play. Jordan snagged the home at a significant deal. Originally listed for $3.99 million in 2011, the bank foreclosed on the home in August 2012, and it later was re-listed for $3.49 million.

Sitting on a lot jutting into Lake Norman and on the seventh hole of the Peninsula Golf Club, Jordan's new digs are private and gated. Built in 1993, the home measures 12,310 sq ft with six bedrooms, eight bathrooms and a two-story great room that opens out to a terraced patio, which holds an enormous pool and spa.

An expansive basement holds room for a personal gym and entertainment center. Jordan already owns an extensive collection of real estate. His custom estate in Chicago is currently on the market, and he bought a Jupiter, Florida, home on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course last year.He also owns a place in Salt Lake City and reportedly a condo in Charlotte.

Bionic Eye - Not Just For Sci-Fi Anymore

The Nano Retina's "Bio-Retina" is a recent attempt to help the   millions of American's who suffer with macular degeneration. Unlike other similar implants, the compact size of the Bio-Retina technology doesn't require external apparatus for operation. This new type of ocular implant can be inserted into the patient's eye through a small incision in under an hour. The unit generates a 576-pixel gray scale image.

So how does it work? The wearer puts on an ordinary looking pair of eyeglasses that contain a battery, the power delivery laser apparatus and prescription lenses. The lenses are for helping with such vision issues as astigmatism and nearsightedness. The near-infrared laser beam gently shines through the eye onto the implant, providing up to three milliwatts of power for the photovoltaic cell that is contained in the implant. The light does not interfere with the wearer's sight. The photoreceptors then pass light information to the image processor and each pixel is translated into electrical pulses that represent a particular shade of gray.

This process triggers the set of needle electrodes that are wrapped in biocompatible silicon and sapphire to prevent scar tissue from forming, to penetrate the retina. The pulses from the electrodes stimulate the eye's neurons which in turn transmit the image to the brain. Each of the 600 tiny electrodes represents one pixel. It's not Technicolor vision, but it is a far cry from huge magnifier glasses...and looks better, too.
